Community Service Coordinator To Speak at Bonner Scholars Retreat in Kentucky
Publication Date: 1/26/2012
Rhodes Community Service Coordinator Anthony Siracusa will speak to the Centre College Bonner Scholar program in Danville, Ky. this week as part of their annual retreat.
Siracusa will focus on what it means to be a Bonner Scholar in the midst of major contemporary events that are reshaping our civic lives. From the political revolutions that have taken place as part of the “Arab Spring” to the lowest levels of belief in the American Congress since the Gallup Poll began assessing Amercans’ approval of congress in the 1970s, Siracusa will describe the ways the Occupy Wall Street Movement builds on a tradition of social movements in contemporary American to address widening national disparities.
He also will focus on the ways undergraduate students might link direct community service with academic analysis to develop new public policies that address widening inequalities.
