Rhodes English Professor To Give Lunch And Learn Talk at National Civil Rights Museum

Dr. Rychetta Watkins, assistant professor of English at Rhodes College, will present “Solidarity in Struggle: The Roots of Black and Yellow Power” on Nov. 16 at the National Civil Rights Museum as part of its Lunch and Learn Series. Free and open to the public, the presentation is 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Rose Room at the museum.
Watkins’ presentation will focus on the rise of Asian American and African American cultural nationalism in the late 1960s and the movements’ associated images, similarities, and subsequent effects on cultural discourse.
At Rhodes, Watkins teaches African American literature as well as courses focusing on the intersections between the African American and Asian American literary traditions.
