We’re Not Moving!
Publication Date: 9/27/2011
During its 5 p.m. newscast last night, local NBC affiliate WMC-TV erroneously reported that Rhodes College has outgrown its current 100-acre campus in the heart of Midtown Memphis and is looking to expand into surrounding neighborhoods or perhaps even move from its current location.
These reports are completely false. WMC aired this information without contacting anyone at Rhodes to verify accuracy. During the 10 p.m. broadcast, the station retracted the story.
Rhodes’ location in Midtown Memphis is critical to the college’s success. We are one of only a handful of top-tier, national liberal arts colleges located in a major city, and our metropolitan location provides students with truly unique, real-world opportunities for academic and personal growth.
In addition to the inaccurate information regarding Rhodes’ proposed expansion or move, WMC also reported incorrect enrollment information. Rhodes currently has approximately 1,800 students, which is the largest student body in the college′s history. Students of color represent 19% of the student body.
