Rhodes Student Receives Society of Physics Students Leadership Scholarship

Evan Nelsen ’12 has been selected to receive a 2011 Society of Physics Students (SPS) Leadership Scholarship based on his outstanding academic performance and SPS participation.
A physics major with a mathematics minor, Nelsen has collaborated with Rhodes Professor Shubho Banerjee to analyze the force between two electrically charged spheres of different size and charge ratios. He also has served as Rhodes’ SPS Outreach Officer, organizing events reaching more than 240 students in the Memphis City Schools. He currently serves as SPS Secretary.
In addition, Nelsen is a top performer for the Lynx track team and has made the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Honor Roll for three consecutive years. In the spring, he was selected Male Scholar Athlete of the Year by NCAA’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
