Dave Zazzaro Named Rhodes’ First Men’s Lacrosse Coach

Publication Date: 6/7/2011

Dave Zazzaro has been named Rhodes’ first men’s lacrosse coach. The Lynx will sponsor NCAA varsity lacrosse for the first time in 2011-12. Zazzaro brings with him 17 years of head coaching experience. “We’re very excited about Dave Zazzaro becoming our first men’s lacrosse coach,” said Mike Clary, Rhodes Director of Athletics. “For Rhodes to begin its program with a head coach who has a proven track record at two highly selective Division III institutions is quite a start.”

Zazzaro was a lacrosse and soccer standout at Drew University, where he graduated in 1991. At the age of 23, he landed his first head coaching job at Colby College, where he compiled a 70-52 record in the highly competitive NESCAC conference, perhaps the top Division III lacrosse league in the country. In Zazzaro’s nine years at Colby, his teams were ranked in the top 20 in the nation seven years and in 1998 Colby won the NESCAC title.

In 2002, Zazzaro left Colby to direct the Colorado College lacrosse program, where he compiled a 52-44 record. The Tigers 2004 and 2008 teams also were ranked in the top 20 in the nation.

“After having been out of college coaching the past two years, I’m very excited about the opportunity at Rhodes,” said Zazzaro. “It’s going to be fun working with the student-athletes, the athletic staff and the Rhodes community to build a first-class men’s lacrosse program.”

Congratulations to Rhodes, Ccoach Clary and Coach Zarroro. My son Will, who has began playing in middle school, loves this great sport. I am very excited for my alma mater. Good luck to Lynx LAX.

Rhodes has a winner in Dave Zazzaro! I coached him in high school and have worked with him for many years. He is a wonderful mentor of young men, knows the game of lacrosse and how to coach it. He will be a huge asset to Rhodes!
