Rhodes ranks number one out of 13 schools for the total number of student-athletes named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Academic Honor Roll for fall 2010. SCAC announced Jan. 27 a record 803 student-athletes on the list, with 105 from Rhodes.
SCAC began recognizing the academic accomplishments of its athletes in the fall of 1997. To qualify, an athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference.
Rhodes’ Director of Athletics Mike Clary says he is proud of the college consistently being in the top one or two on the SCAC honor roll.
“The academic success of our student-athletes is a result of the commitment to the Rhodes mission by our faculty, coaches and staff, our commitment to the student-athlete model, and the mentoring our faculty, coaches and staff provide to our student-athletes,” says Clary. “It’s also a testimony to the incredibly hard work our student-athletes commit to their academic endeavors day-in and day-out.”
