Caki Wilkinson ’03 has won the 2010 Vassar Miller Prize in Poetry. American poet J.D. McClatchy selected her poetry manuscript, "Circles Where the Head Should Be," out of a pool of 350 manuscripts. It will be published next spring by the University of North Texas Press. 

Bernal Smith II ’95 is new Publisher and President of Memphis’ Tri-State Defender. Smith comes to the publication after serving as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of B.E. Smith and Associates, a Memphis-based strategic execution and community relations firm.

Griffin Stockley ’65 is the first recipient of a writers grant (up to $10K) from the Laman Library of North Little Rock, Ark. Stockley is known for his nonfiction writing on race relations in Arkansas and is completing a book about 21 African American teenagers who died in a 1959 fire at the Negro Boys Industrial School in Wrightsville, Ark.
