I believe that success and happiness in life are determined more by the choices we make than by any talent we possess. Each day at Rhodes is an affirmation for me that I made the right choice in coming here.

In my business major, the academics have been challenging and rewarding. The encouragement I received from my professors led to internships at Bear Stearns in Los Angeles, at UBS in New York City the following summer and to studying abroad in Spain the summer after my junior year. They were terrific learning experiences in all ways possible. My internships have greatly influenced how I work, think, prepare and interact in the classroom and on the golf course.

The experience with the golf program has been just as rewarding. The men’s golf coach, Bill Cochran, and the entire athletic department significantly influenced my decision to come to Rhodes. I was fortunate enough to be  a part of one of Coach Cochran’s first recruiting classes. Under his guidance and years of hard work, the team has gone from unranked to a ranking as high as number five in the nation for Division III. Last year, our team made it to the national championship for the first time in 35 years. I was runner-up individually, and was named an NCAA First Team All-American. As this year’s captain, I am looking forward to continuing the program’s "forward momentum" and improving on our national ranking this season.

My parents often say that Rhodes is a "college heaven." I agree with them. To anyone who asks about Rhodes, I tell them it is a place that gives you the opportunities for both study and leadership. When I graduate in May, I will leave with unforgettable memories of sharing a wonderful college experience with the many good friends I have made here. I believe success is defined by making the absolute most of one’s opportunities; Rhodes College has continually provided these opportunities for me.
