Rhodes Hosts MLK Events January 17-19

Rhodes College’s celebration of the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Day includes three days of events.  The schedule is as follows:

January 17

Black In History. . .The Movement of Dr. Martin Luther King
Open Mic Night
Lynx Lair,  6-8 pm; Doors open at 5:30 pm

January 18

MLK Birthday Party and Educational Workshop
Frazier Jelke, 1- 3 pm
Rhodes students will lead the party for Snowden, Promise Academy, and Springdale Elementary students in grades 2-4.  The activities will include crafts, an “I Have A Dream” quilt, a film and birthday cake. Literature with information about Dr. King’s life and speeches as well as the civil rights struggle will be distributed.        

Service Plunge
All day-All over Memphis
Rhodes students give their talent and service to the community.

January 19

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: An Evening of Reflection (Free and open to the public)
Bryan Campus Life Center Ballroom, 7 pm
This program will feature a variety of responses to Dr. King’s legacy. Rhodes students, as well as students from Rhodes’ MCS partner schools--Snowden, Springdale and Cypress—will make presentations.
