· Grade: Freshman
· Major: Neuroscience
· Model UN Experience: MSMUN, Washington University @ St. Louis, Vanderbilt University
· Travel Stories or Places: I went to San Diego at the end of this past summer. One of the days, my family friends took me to the beach. Yes, of course the beach is awesome. Everyone knows that. The weather, the atmosphere, and the scenery were all absolutely stunning. However, I made it even more swag by playing frisbee in the ocean, via standing in the water and standing on surfboard and wake boards and seadoos.
· Fun fact or story: Because I′m cool and a freshman, I am going to tell 2 short stories.
Story #1: I am currently enrolled in Intro to Psychology (I have no earthly idea why). At the beginning of the year, I managed to accidentally sleep everyday in class. Soon did I not realize, I had my first college exam...in a class I managed to fall asleep in, inadvertently. Guess who bossed that exam, oh that′s right, me! What did I get you ask...a 100 obviously.
Story #2: My awesome Indian parents put me in driver′s ed, the summer before my junior year; they thought I couldn′t drive (and they substantiated their absurd judgment on the basis of my golf cart driving skills). Such silly people they are. All was going just dandy in class until one dreaded day: the infamous vision test. Apparently, I couldn′t see at a distance (nearsightedness) for the life of me. It came as a shock not to my instructor or parents, but to me. I went to the optometrist and received my diagnosis and prescription for glasses. The doc said my eyesight has been declining since my freshman year of high school :-o. It was a whole new world the day I got my glasses!
· Inspirational Quote: "Winning isn′t everything. It is the only thing."
Nick Mastron, Co-Chair
Hello delegates! My name is Nicholas Mastron, and I am proud to serve as the World Health Organization’s Co-Chair for MSMUN 2013! I am a senior Political Science, Economics, International Studies, and History major at the University of Memphis. I am currently working on one undergraduate thesis analyzing the development and expansion of the Iranian nuclear program. I have participated in Model United Nations program for five years (3 as a high school delegate and 2 as a collegiate delegate). While in college I have had the ability to study abroad in both London and Berlin. Perhaps one of the most exhilarating events to ever attend is a German National Team public viewing. I had the fortune of watching along with over half a million screaming German fans the German soccer team play and defeat the Netherlands. The celebrations after the win were unlike anything any of us had ever seen––everything from fireworks being set off to screaming fans driving around constantly honking the German national anthem. Two fun facts about myself are that the New York Yankees are my favorite sports team and that I love to play guitar. I leave you with a charge to always strive to learn and an inspirational quote from Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
