How did you become interested in business?
I’ve always really enjoyed business. I started a jewelry company while I was in middle school, selling things at local fairs and smaller events. The international interest came from my badminton experience.

After my sophomore year at Rhodes, I went on the Maymester business consulting program in Egypt. I loved it. It was a fantastic program! I would like to go back again this summer. The best part was experiencing a different culture and seeing how people live.

What’s the badminton story?
I have played badminton since I was little and I have had the opportunity to compete in several national and international tournaments. Badminton has opened up many travel and friendship opportunities. I now have friends in many countries. Getting to know people from other cultures really intrigued me.

I love badminton. It is a great sport that is not very well known in the United States. When I came to Rhodes, I played badminton with the local clubs in Memphis. I wanted to expand the sport in the Memphis area, so I started the badminton club at Rhodes during my sophomore year and it is now a club sport. The Rhodes College Badminton Club has competed at local tournaments.

So how did you come to Rhodes?
My dad went to Vanderbilt, so I was always kind of familiar with Tennessee. I wanted to experience another part of the country and I wanted to be in the south. I had my heart set attending another school, but I when I came to visit Rhodes and did an overnight visit, I fell in love with Rhodes, and Memphis, and I’m very happy that I came here.

What’s your Rhodes experience like now?
The opportunities for jobs and internships that Rhodes has given me are wonderful. I have a job at IPS group now that I started with as an intern through the Career Services Department.

Advice for incoming freshman?
Go visit your professors. Get to know them and don’t be afraid to ask questions. They really want to help you. Take advantage of the career center resources and the great connections that the people of Rhodes have.

Plans after graduation?
I definitely want to stay in Memphis and I want to study accounting. I would like to take some time off to travel before I settle in to my career.
