HURAA evaluation
Study 3 gears up. The study is designed to investigate the efficacy
of a web agent developed to teach and aid researchers, officials, and
military personnel in the proper use and treatment of human subject
in research, as well as IRB protocols.
March 1, 2002:
Evaluation study
of various tutoring systems in the domain of physics begins. The project,
funded by the Office of Navy Research, is part of the Multidisciplinary
University Research Initiative. The Office of Naval Research grant is
held jointly by the University of Memphis and the University of Pittsburgh.
The evaluation is designed to look at 4 types of tutoring conditions,
including 2 intelligent systems, Why/AutoTutor and Why/Atlas.
January 31, 2002:
Question Answering
Tool successfully tested. The module will begin to be integrated into
the Why/AutoTutor System.
December 20, 2001:
Think aloud protocol
study successfully runs 6 subjects on the Why/AutoTutor System. Work
will begin during the holiday to make need improvements in the system
for the April 1, 2002 evaluation study.
November 1, 2001:
Speech Act Classifier
proves to successfully classify 87% of all statements and questions.
nineteen question categories are successfully delineated. The goal of
the future Spring 2002 project is to have finer grain classification
within the assertion category.
