Dr. Seth Rudy, assistant professor of English at Rhodes, has published a new book titled Literature and Encyclopedism in Enlightenment Britain:The Pursuit of Complete Knowledge (Palgrave Macmillan).
The book tells the story of long-term aspirations to comprehend, record, and disseminate complete knowledge of the world—first in ancient epic and then in a wide range of literary and non-literary works from the early modern era and British Enlightenment.
Rudy teaches courses on the literature of 18th century Britain. He also has published and presented research on authors such as Francis Bacon, John Milton, and Charles Dickens.
