Greek and Roman Studies Book Signing: October 28, 2013

Professors Ariel Lopez and Geoff Bakewell will be discussing their recent publications, Shenoute of Atripe and the Uses of Poverty and Aeschylus′s Suppliant Women: The Tragedy of Immigration respectively, in Blount Auditorium at 4:30 on October 28, 2013. A reception and book signing to follow.

Service

Students from the Greek and Roman Studies have worked with local schools regularly for the past eighteen years.  From 1997-2010, GRS faculty and students sponsored a program at Bruce Elementary every Monday after school. The program at Bruce introduced young students to the contributions that ancient Mediterranean cultures have made to the development of Western civilization through games, songs, and artistic engagement.  We hope to restart the program when we once again find a local partner.

Technology

For the last thirty years, classics have led the humanities in the application of computer technology. Because graduates are increasingly expected have attained a significant level of expertise in the use of digital information by the time they graduate, the Greek and Roman Studies program is committed to making extensive use of computer-based resources and helping students become familiar and comfortable with the Internet as a medium of scholarly interaction.
