Jackson Article Will Be Reprinted
Prof. Jeffery Jackson’s article “Making Jazz French: The Reception of Jazz Music in Paris, 1927-1934,” which appeared in French Historical Studies in 2002, will be reprinted in a volume in the Library of Essays on Popular Music series to be published by Ashgate Press. This volume in the series, titled Jazz, collects cutting-edge essays from the past 20 years by some of the leading scholars in jazz studies, cultural studies, history, and musicology. Each essay engages with the theory, history, and performance of jazz, and situates the music within the context of international popular culture.
The collection, edited by Tony Whyton from University of Salford (UK), will appear in September 2011. Jackson’s article won the inaugural Randy Bailey prize for best article from the New York State Association of European Historians in 2002.
