Prof. Brown’s work on Chinese archaeology translated for Chinese journal
Clayton Brown, Assistant Professor of Asian history, has published a number of articles in both Chinese and English on the development of archaeology in China and its relationship to national identity formation. In 2008 the Hong Kong-based Asian art history journal Orientations featured Prof. Brown’s biography of Li Chi, China’s first archaeologist. This summer Li Chi’s great-grandson, Chen Beichen, a graduate student in Chinese archaeology, translated Prof. Brown’s Orientations article into Chinese for the journal Shucheng published in Shanghai by Fudan University. Prof. Brown is now completing a book manuscript on the history of Sino-American archaeology and will be presenting his findings at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences in November.
