Willie Hiatt, a visiting professor of history at Rhodes College, participated in the Distinguished Speakers in Latin American History Series last month at the University of Texas at Austin. Graduate students invited Hiatt to serve as a discussant in a grant-writing workshop and to present his research. Hiatt gave a paper entitled, “If ‘Savages’ Missed the Boat of World History, Could They Still Catch the Plane? Aviation in the Peruvian Jungle, 1925-1940.” This weekend Hiatt is traveling to the Southern Historical Association annual meeting in Louisville, Ky., where he will present a paper for the panel, “Reconsidering New Approaches to Aviation History in Latin America.”
