Prof. Jackson and Rhodes history alumnus Robert Edgecombe (′04) published an editorial in the August 29 edition of the New Orleans Times-Picayune to coincide with the anniversary of hurricane Katrina.

Drawing lessons from Jackson′s research on the Paris flood of 1910 and Edgecombe′s work as an urban planning consultant during Katrina recovery, the editorial argues that Paris′ recovery efforts after its catastrophe 100 years ago can inspire New Orleans as it continues to rebuild.

Jackson and Edgecombe argue that a strong sense of community and public spirit lie at the heart of how cities recover from disaster.
