"Memphis Cares for Her Own?" Southern Religion, the Great Depression, and the New Deal: An Evening with Alison Collis Greene

The Memphis Center at Rhodes College is proud to welcome historian Alison Collis Greene for the next event in our “Memphis Centered” speaker series. Dr. Greene, an Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University, is the author of the acclaimed new book No Depression in Heaven: The Great Depression, The New Deal and the Transformation of Religion in the Delta. In this talk, Dr. Greene will specifically discuss Memphis, sharing her findings about the complex relationship between churches, government and everyday Memphians in the Depression era. Based on extensive research, Dr. Greene’s talk will offer new perspectives on this crucial period in our region’s history.
