The Batey Lecture Series at Rhodes College presents Karen L. King, Hollis Professor of Divinity, Harvard University
According to the Gospel of John, the first witness to the resurrected Jesus was Mary Magdalene. An ancient gospel newly found in Egypt, the Gospel
of Mary, elaborates this account, describing the Savior’s conversation with her and his later appearance to the other disciples. While not historically accurate, the Gospel of Mary is the earliest narrative interpretation of the Gospel of John that has survived, and it reveals a new kind of Johannine Christianity.
