Lynx Club for Athletics
The mission of the Lynx Club is to secure financial support for Rhodes College Athletics. Each year, approximately 25% of our students compete on one of 10 men’s and 11 women’s varsity teams in the Southern Athletic Association. Our athletes learn things through competition that cannot be taught in the classroom. They learn how to be part of a team, how to push themselves to succeed, how to win with pride and how to lose with grace. Our student athletes become leaders on the field which translates to success in their futures.
2013-2014 was an historic year for Rhodes athletics. The women’s golf team won the NCAA Championship-our first national title. Women’s basketball, men’s golf, and baseball earned berths into the NCAA Tournament. In addition, our teams won 6 SAA regular season titles and 2 SAA post-season tournament titles. Beyond these team titles, many of our athletes won individual honors this year - 33 earned 1st Team All SAA Conference Awards, including a 2nd team All-American, a 3rd team All-American, the South Region Player of the Year, and 4 SAA Players of the Year. Our student athletes also excelled in the classroom. This year Rhodes led the league with 267 athletes named to the SAA Academic Honor Roll. Our athletes consistently earn the highest cumulative grade point average in the conference, despite the many hours they devote to practice each week.
Rhodes established the Lynx Club to ensure that these talented student athletes have the resources they need to succeed. Financial support of the athletic program is critical to building a championship caliber program. To help us secure many of the resources, facilities, and equipment our players need to succeed we depend on the generosity of the Rhodes community. We encourage alumni, parents of current and former athletes, and friends to invest in the athletic program. All gifts to the Lynx Club support our athletic programs and donors have the option to designate their gifts to any sport. We offer 7 membership opportunities.
