Outreach Programs


Safe Zones – The Safe Zones program serves as a source of support and information, free of judgment and hostility for lesbian, gay, transgender, intersexed and questioning/queer (LGBTIQ) students. Counselor Pam Detrie coordinates the Rhodes Safe Zones program and facilitates training sessions and Brown Bag lunch discussions throughout the school year.  For more information about Safe Zones, contact Pam at detriep@rhodes.edu

V-Day – The Counseling Center is the primary sponsor for Rhodes’ V-Day organization, which raises awareness about sexual assault and does an annual fundraising production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues.  Proceeds from V-Day events go towards local, national and international women’s organizations. Eating Disorders Awareness Week – The Counseling Center coordinates an Eating Disorder Awareness Week (EDAW) every February.  Educational and self-assessment materials are made available throughout the year, and Counseling Center-sponsored events include lectures by eating disorder and nutrition specialists and film showings.  If you are interested in learning more about EDAW or have programming suggestions, please contact counselor Chenbobia Webster at websterc@rhodes.edu

Art & Community Exhibits – Every year, the Counseling Center sponsors art and community-based exhibits open to the campus and greater Memphis area.  Past projects have included displays of the Century Project, the AIDS quilt, and photo exhibits from the Family Diversity Project.

National Coalition Building Institute – The National Coalition Building Institute is an international, non-profit, leadership training organization based in Washington, DC, USA.
