Chemistry Majors Win Undergraduate Poster Awards

Rhodes senior Alli Dewar and sophomore Katie Hatstat, both chemistry majors, took home undergraduate poster awards from the Computers in Chemistry division at the 247th American Chemical Society National Conference held March 16-20 in Dallas and attended by more than 10,000 chemists from around the world.

In addition, senior Rachel Sanders presented her poster in the conference’s Sci-Mix, a well-attended, select session combining research highlights from all 30 divisions in the American Chemical Society. Professors Kim Brien, Mauricio Cafiero, Larryn Peterson and Roberto de la Salud Bea also attended the conference with their research students.

Dewar, Hatstat and Sanders presented work that they have completed in Prof. Cafiero’s research lab. Dewar has been accepted to several graduate programs in chemistry and hopes to study pharmaceutical/medicinal chemistry. Hatstat plans to attend graduate school in neuro-pharmacology. Sanders has been accepted to several pharmacy programs and plans to become a pharmacist.
