Rhodes baseball, along with the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, won their respective Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament championships over the weekend, which guarantees their spots in the upcoming NCAA championships.

Dr. Charles McKinney, the Neville Frierson Bryan Chair of Africana Studies and an associate professor of history, received the Clarence Day Award for Outstanding Teaching. Dr. Marsha Walton, a professor of psychology, received the Clarence Day Award for Outstanding Research.
The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Rhodes has been awarded the 2017-2018 Commissioner’s Cup. The Commissioner’s Cup, formerly known as the Presidents' Trophy, recognizes the SAA institution with the overall best varsity athletic program.
Sean Moore, Samuel C. Naids, Bailey Cook, Avani Alapati, Emma Hauck, Rhiannon Rainey, Ramiz A. Somjee, Adam C. Wyatt, Abigail H. Lidoski, Joshua Benton, Nicholas Kokoropoulos recently were inducted into Eta Sigma Phi.
A physics major and math minor, Eleanor Hook is interested in all aspects of these subjects, from research to local outreach to legislative policy.
Thanks to the vision and generosity of Dr. Charles Robertson Jr. ’65, the shop was renovated and named in honor of Glen Davis, technical associate in the Department of Physics. Davis has managed the shop for 20 years, teaching students and others on campus machining, fabricating, and welding, as well as making and repairing items for college instruction, research, and maintenance.
The event will feature moderated panels of scholarly and creative presentations by Rhodes students.
Phi Beta Kappa is America’s oldest collegiate honor society. Only about 10 percent of the nation’s institutions of higher learning have Phi Beta Kappa chapters.
While in Memphis for MLK50 events, Rev. Lawson spoke to a packed room in Rhodes’ Briggs Hall on April 5 about the history and changes of the country as well as the continued need for social justice. The Rhodes Board of Trustees earlier this year voted to confer the degree, and a brief ceremony took place prior to the talk.
Grace Duarte-Baker is the new assistant director, and Shaundra Bills is a clinical counselor. Dr. Archandria Owens will assume the associate director’s position in May.
