The fall meeting of the Tennessee Board of Education will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23, at Rhodes College in Memphis. The board convenes four times a year, and in April 2015, the Tennessee State Legislature passed a Senate Bill allowing for two of the four regular quarterly meetings to be held either at the State Capitol or at other locations within the state. The meeting at Rhodes will be the first time the board has met in Memphis.

The State Board of Education is composed of 11 members representing the diversity of the state – one from each congressional district, plus a student member, and the executive director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, who serves as non-voting ex officio member. Board members are unpaid Gubernatorial appointees, confirmed by the legislature and selected based on a passion for service to the people of Tennessee and their commitment to the education of Tennessee’s children. Rhodes President William E. Troutt is a member of the board and represents the 9th Congressional District.
