Recently, chemistry research students Gene Lamanilao, Mallory Morris, Carolyn Dishuck, Calli Pinckney, Danielle Wilson, Skyler Cochrane, and Abby Ritter presented their research at the Arkansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Conference in Fayetteville.

Skyler Cochrane (chemistry) won second place in the Oral Presentation category for her research into the synthesis of dopamine analogues. Gene Lamanilao (biochemistry and molecular biology) won second place in the Poster Presentation category for his research on the synthesis of potential inhibitors of the Lpxc enzyme. Carolyn Dishuck (biology) won Honorable Mention in the Poster Presentation category for research on the design and computational modelling of potential inhibitors of the Lpxc enzyme.

Abby Ritter presented research on the design and computational modelling of inhibitors for DOPA decarboxylase, and Emily Harrison and Caroline Magee also attended the conference.

There were a total of 50 oral and poster presentations in the chemistry division this year. Cochrane and Lamanilao work in the lab of Prof. Larryn Peterson, and Dishuck and Ritter work in the lab of Prof. Mauricio Cafiero.
