Rhodes alumna Sarah Bacot is one of 36 individuals recently named a 2015 Point Scholar to receive financial support for academic and leadership success and to make an impact on society. She will attend Harvard Law School in the fall.
The Point Foundation is the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students, and it received almost 2,000 applications for scholarships during the application period from November 2014 through January 2015. The rigorous selection process required candidates to demonstrate academic excellence, leadership skills, community involvement, and financial need. Attention was also given to students who have lost the social support of their families and/or communities as a result of revealing their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
In 2013, Bacot was one of 40 students awarded the prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship used for travel and study abroad. She graduated from Rhodes in 2013 with a B.A. in history/gender and sexuality studies.
