The Rhodes College A team went undefeated to win this past weekend’s 24-team opening round of the National Championship Tournament held in the Shelby County Court House and sponsored by the American Mock Trial Association. For an unprecedented 27th consecutive year, Rhodes will be sending a mock trial team to the finals.
Rhodes also joined the Universities of California-Berkeley, Virginia, Duke, Tufts, and California-Irvine as the only schools to qualify both their teams. Rhodes College B captured the college’s second bid.
Rhodes A team captain Matthew Jehl was the tournament’s top-rated attorney, while James Todd won an outstanding witness award. Rhodes A team members are Matthew Jehl (captain), Jared Blanton, Pauline Dyer, Paul Hubbell, Taylor Jackson, Victoria Lykins, Elena Mosby, Lauren Tesler, and James Todd, and the coaches are Marcus Pohlmann and Anna Smith.
Maggie McGowan of Rhodes B Team won an outstanding attorney award, while Molly Mugford was named an outstanding witness. Rhodes B team members are William Lay (captain), Nicole Huguley, Maggie McGowan, William McGriff, Allison Miller, Henry Morris, Molly Mugford, Matthew Niegos, Cole Wyatt, and Amelia Yeomelakis, and the coaches are Kevin McCormack and Megan Starling, with the assistance of Ben Morrell.
The national finals will be held the weekend of April 12-14 at the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Court House and the H. Carl Moultrie Court House in Washington, D.C.
