Prof. Valeria Nollan to Speak in Moscow this Spring at Prestigious Theological Institute

Russian Studies Professor Valeria Z. Nollan has been invited to give a lecture in Moscow in late May at the prestigious SS Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute of Post-Graduate Studies of the Moscow Patriarchate, which is part of The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration. Her lecture, which will be given in Russian, is titled in translation: “St. John Maximovich of Shanghai and San Francisco, Shepherd of the Russian Orthodox Church: From Sremski Karlovci to ROCOR to Reunification with Moscow.”

The lecture will elaborate the major contributions made by Archbishop John Maximovich to the spiritual and material well-being of the Russian Orthodox refugee community displaced by the Revolution of 1917 and World War II. It also will highlight the influence of his hierarchical wisdom on the re-unification of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia with the Moscow Patriarchate--one of the most important events in world Orthodoxy of the last thousand years.

Among the distinguished graduates of the Russian Presidential Academy are Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council, and Sergei Shoigu, Russia′s Minister of Defense.
