Departmental Assistant
(901) 843-3863

As the Departmental Assistant for the past ten years, I work directly with 20+ faculty members and oversee the day-to-day office operations of the Departments of Business and Economics. I also interact on a daily basis with many of the almost 200 junior and senior majors in the two departments as well as students who have not yet declared a major and are taking business and economics courses. The office is a busy one during the school year; there is a steady stream of students meeting with professors and getting information on course selection, department majors, international internship scholarships, the department Maymester programs and the M.S. in Accounting graduate program.

My education and prior work experience has made this an ideal job. A liberal arts undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt gave me an appreciation for the breadth of knowledge that can be gained from the Rhodes curriculum. My graduate degree was in Library Science, and I worked in the public library field for over 30 years. I retired from the Memphis Public Library as the system’s youth services coordinator after also having worked as a children′s librarian, agency manager and regional manager. These were all positions that involved organizing activities, working with the public, and helping children, teens and adults get the information they needed. This has translated quite well to my current position.

In my personal life, I′m an avid reader (mystery and suspense fiction), movie-watcher, traveler, and Harley rider. My husband and I have one daughter who is a Rhodes alum.
