Description of Music

Rhodes College offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in music through a comprehensive study of music theory, music history and literature, and music performance. The music major and minor at Rhodes College is designed to prepare students for further study in graduate school or to enter a wide range of career options. Recent graduates have found their vocation in music education, sacred music, music therapy, arts administration, music publishing, and musical performance.

Performance opportunities at Rhodes College include ensembles for all students, whether or not music is their major. Large ensembles are open to all Rhodes College students and include the Rhodes Singers, MasterSingers Chorale, Women′s Chorus, Rhodes Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble. Chamber ensembles include Flute Choir, Woodwind Quintet, String Quartet, Percussion Ensemble, and Brass Ensemble.

Private study in piano, voice, guitar, organ, strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion are all available through a
world-class faculty in a world-class musical city. Beginners as well as advanced performers have ample study and performance opportunities. Hassell Hall offers practice, research, study, and performance space for all levels of musical interest. (Rhodes’ Department of Music Website)
