Creating a Portfolio

If you are pursuing a career in education, journalism, or art, a portfolio will provide visual evidence of your accomplishments. Few business people use portfolios, though many argue that such physical support of your resume is helpful in any field.

Your portfolio should contain copies of your resume, lists of references, letters of recommendation, and documents highlighting your experience, accomplishments, knowledge, and skills. Try to obtain a job description and a realistic concept of what qualities your potential employer may be seeking, and tailor your portfolio accordingly.

Bring your portfolio to interviews as visual evidence of your accomplishments; if you are still in school and applying for an internship, portfolios are an important part of standing out, since you may not have much ‘real life’ experience, a portfolio will showcase your abilities and versatility, making you memorable to your potential employer.
