Musical Groups

At Rhodes, musicians perform a wide variety of genres and repertoires, from classical and a capella to jazz and world music. Many groups bring students together with seasoned performers from Rhodes faculty and the Memphis community.
Groups include:

Rhodes Singers: concert choir that tours nationally every year and internationally every three years

MasterSingers Chorale: professional choral ensemble; membership comprises music professionals, alumni, faculty, students, and select community participants

Rhodes Women’s Chorus: group of select female singers who perform the best of the women’s chorus tradition, both on- and off-campus

Rhodes Orchestra: open to any Rhodes student with previous experience in band or orchestra; performs symphonic orchestral music

Rhodes Wind Ensemble: part of the Rhodes Orchestra, but requires an audition with the conductor; performs standard wind ensemble repertoire

Rhodes String Ensemble: part of the Rhodes Orchestra, but requires an audition with the conductor; performs music specifically written for string ensembles

Rhodes Flute Ensemble: open to all interested flautists

Rhodes World Drum Ensemble: open to students; performs a wide variety of percussion ensemble music

Rhodes Guitar Ensemble: open to students; offers a performing outlet for interested guitarists

Rhodes Brass Ensemble: practices and performs challenging brass music in quartet, quintet, sextet, and larger ensembles

Rhodes String Quartet: offers string players an additional performance outlet

Rhodes Woodwind Quintet: open to select wind students; performs woodwind quintet music

Rhodes Jazz Ensemble: provides a jazz performance several times each semester; improvisers required
