About Closing Charges and Fines:
Each year all residence halls rooms are inspected prior to students moving in and again after students have moved out. The differences that are considered above normal wear and tear on college buildings and room furnishing are charged back to the students along with fines for trash and abandoned items.
Common Area Damage:
This is charged for damage that occurred in public areas. Please see a further explanation in the Student Handbook.
Trash:
Trash fines are issued for leaving cement blocks, non-college furniture, refrigerators, carpet, trash, and other abandoned items. Included in trash fines are cleaning charges for East Village Residents.
Residence Hall Key Not Returned:
Students not returning their room key are charged $10.00. Students may return key in a padded envelope back to the Residence Life Office 2000 North Parkway Memphis, TN 38112 for credit.
Fire Safety Violation:
This fine is issued to students with inverted beds, multi-plug expanders or for other items that are not permitted in the Residence Hall.
Residence Hall Room Damage:
These are charges specially assigned for damage that occurrs inside the room. Charges are issued for damage to walls, paint, ceiling, broken windows, missing furniture, and stained carpet.
Reminder:
Students who check out of college housing using the Express Check-out option waive their right to contest charges.
