Center for Outreach in the Development of the Arts

The CODA Fellows program, established in 2005 with generous grant from the Robert and Ruby Priddy Charitable Trust of Wichita Falls, Texas, is for liberal arts majors with a passion for the fine arts. The program fosters leadership, vision, communication skills and innovative thinking for future leaders in the arts.

Each CODA Fellow receives an annual scholarship of $12,500 in return for 10 hours of service to the arts each week. The experience of each CODA Fellow culminates in their senior year, during which students format a Community Arts Project (CAP) with an off-campus arts organization. Additionally, CODA works with Rhodes College faculty and student groups to integrate the arts into the broader curriculum, enhance the college′s fine arts programs, create a rich arts environment on campus and in the community, and challenge all Rhodes students to view themselves as potential leaders in the arts.

Dr. Timothy Sharp provides leadership and program development for CODA. Dr. Sharp, who is Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for Fine Arts Development, is also the Elizabeth Gay Daughdrill Professor in the Fine Arts and Chair of the Rhodes College Department of Music.

John Weeden, assistant director of CODA, is responsible for programming support and outreach development. Weeden is also a Rhodes College alumnus, graduating in art history. He holds a M.A. degree in contemporary art history from Sotheby′s Institute of Art, London, and is completing his M.A. dissertation in contemporary art curation from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College.
