Where I Went: Paris, France
When I Went: Fall 2011
Program: IES Paris, French Studies
Hi, my name is Annie Bares and I’m a junior English and French double major. I spent last fall living and studying in Paris, France. The highlight of my study abroad experience was definitely living with a French family. I stayed in an awesome apartment in the center of Paris, right off of the Champs Elysee and absolutely loved my family! I really got to know all of the unique aspects of French culture from lifelong Parisians. My family provided me with the perfect amount of support and independence and I would recommend a homestay to anyone thinking about going abroad.
I loved being in Paris because it was the first time that I have ever lived in a big city and I really enjoyed getting to know it better. There was also always something to do or a museum to visit and I really enjoyed taking advantage of all that the city has to offer. The academic side of my experience was also rewarding. I participated in the IES Paris French Studies program and took all of my classes in French with other American students. My professors were also all French, which provided greater insight into the French model of education. I really enjoyed my classes and was able to greatly improve my French language skills. I was also able to travel to Amsterdam, Prague, Berlin, Vienna, Salzburg, Barcelona and Florence and had a great time taking in these cities. I really enjoyed my study abroad experience and would encourage any students to experience life in a different country for a while!
