Where I Went: Oxford, U.K. and Antwerp, Belgium
When I Went: Summer 2011 and Summer 2012
Program: British Studies at Oxford and Rhodes Maymester

Hello! My name is Michelle Hardin and I am a senior English major and a double History and Religious Studies minor at Rhodes. The past two summers I have attended two study abroad programs with Rhodes and treasured every second that I spent abroad! In the summer of 2011, I went on British Studies at Oxford in Oxford, England. Students on my program stayed at St. Johns College in the resident dorms and we took excursions each weekend to different historical sites in England. Some of my favorite visits included Hampton Court Palace, Derbyshire, Stonehenge, and the Globe Theater. Oxford is about an hour and a half bus ride or an hour train ride to London and I frequented there as much as I could. British Studies was the perfect length of time for me to feel like a part of Oxford. I made friendships with the locals and was able to take a class from an amazing Oxford professor. I earned eight hours worth of History and English credits and found the learning experience to be phenomenal.

This past summer I went on the Antwerp Maymester to Belgium. I took International Business Cases and Religion in the Low Countries. Our group managed to venture outside of Belgium to Paris, Amsterdam, Aachen, Germany and Reims, France. On the Maymester we made site visits to incredible places such as Gudrun chocolate factory, Stella Artois Brewery, the Anne Frank house, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre. BSAO and the Antwerp Maymester helped me gain a lot of confidence. On both trips I traveled alone and learned how to face the challenges of being in a foreign environment and how to appreciate different cultures. I’m really passionate about studying abroad and am considering going abroad for my Master′s degree. I would love to talk to anybody that would possibly be interested in these two programs and answer questions! They were invaluable experiences that I will never forget.
