Where I Went: Oxford, England
When I Went: Summer 2010
Program: British Studies at Oxford
Hi everyone! My name is Hannah Sackett and I am a Political Science major from the Washington D.C. area. This past summer I chose to travel to Oxford, England for the British Studies at Oxford program. This particular program is one of the most highly rated study abroad programs that Rhodes offers. The program allows you to spend 6 weeks living at St. John’s college in the heart of the city of Oxford. During my time in Oxford I got to experience all that the city had to offer. Whether we were spending time with locals or attending an art opening or just walking through the city, my friends and I were fully immersed in the culture. The city truly felt like home. And on top of that, the program offered some amazing excursions to the Roman Baths, Stonehenge, the Globe, York, Durham, and many others. We also had ready access to a train station, and with London and the airport, there were ample opportunities for traveling. Some of my favorite memories include “punting” on the river, attending an outdoor performance of Romeo and Juliet, and all of the fun conversations at High Table Dinners. My friends and I took many trips into the city as well as a weekend trip to Dublin, Ireland. I will always have some of the most amazing memories from this trip, and it will always have a huge impact on my life. It is really a program that every Rhodes student should consider. We are very lucky to have such a great resource at our disposal.
