Where I went: Sophia University Tokyo, Japan
When I went: fall 2008-spring 2009 (sophomore year)
Program: Off Campus Program - direct enrollment – Tokyo, Japan
How long: Academic year
My name is Rina Ishii and I am a junior biology major. I spent an academic year during my sophomore year at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan by directly enrolling to the institution. I stayed with a host family that has lived in Memphis before, and I loved it! Although the school did not provide biology courses, I was able to fulfill many of the Foundations requirements as well as completing some Asian Studies courses. I learned how to navigate through the busy city of Tokyo using the trains, metros and buses. I made many friends, and I had the opportunity to go to Yuzawa for a skiing trip and to Miyakojima Island for a fun time at the beach. Staying abroad for a whole academic year may be a long time for some people, but my time in Japan was well worth it. I well indulged myself in the Japanese culture, and I can′t wait to go back!
