Studied Abroad: Italian Language
Studied In: Perugia, Italy
My name is Megan McDonald, and I am a junior Business Administration major. I studied abroad in the Fall of 2008 in Perugia, Italy. I studied there through Arcadia University at the Umbra Institute. I lived with other American students in an apartment that was selected by the school. The Umbra Institute also hosted a variety of activities to get to know Perugia and the surrounding areas. They helped very much with acclimating the living in a different country.I chose Perugia in order to focus on my language, as well as surround myself in a place full of Italian culture and heritage. Perugia is a medieval, Etruscan town full of history. I enjoyed getting to know the local townspeople and became a regular at a grocery and coffee bar. Because Perugia is a small, not tourist driven town, most locals did not speak English, or barely did, which forced me to use the language skills I had learned. While in Italy, I also had the ability to travel to several countries including Sweden, Germany, Greece, and England, as well as exploring all over Italy. Spending the semester in Italy was the opportunity of a lifetime, and I cannot wait to return!
