- Contributes to the scientific community through the dissemination of research, including peer-reviewed publications and professional meetings.
DIS is an academically intense study program primarily for US students located in Copenhagen. Students choose from a number of semester, year, and summer programs in several fields of study. The Biotechnology and Biomedicine Program is designed for students exploring career opportunities within biotech research and/or biotech business development.
The Medical Practice and Policy Program is designed for students with a serious, documented interest in medicine and the required science background.
The program is offered each fall by The Ecosystems Center, Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), located in Woods Hole, MA. SES is a 15-week program in environmental science offered to students enrolled in colleges participating in the MBL Consortium in Environmental Science. Students from non-affiliated colleges and universities may receive credit for the semester through Brown University.
Scientists at the Ecosystems Center serve as faculty for the program. In addition to teaching fundamentals of ecosystems science, they discuss their current research, which touches on important issues of global change.
The curriculum leads students to develop research questions of their own. Equipped with new knowledge and techniques learned in the first weeks of the semester, they pursue independent research during the last six weeks of the program. SES students report their findings at a final symposium that is open to the entire Woods Hole scientific community, a world center for marine and environmental sciences.
Get a semester’s credit for this 12-week program, taking place half on shore and half at sea. Students begin at Woods Hole, one of the world’s great centers for ocean research, studying the chemistry, biology, physics, and geology of the oceans and designing research projects for the at sea portion. Students will learn how to take a vessel under sail safely to international ports. Students participate in all of the duties the ship requires, as mariners have done for generations. Every day, students are given more responsibility as their maritime skills increase.
The Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) is a non-profit international consortium of over 60 universities and research institutes from throughout the United States, Latin America, South Africa and Australia, whose aim is to strengthen education, research and rational use of natural resources in the tropics. OTS offers both summer and semester programs in Costa Rica covering topics such as Tropic Medicine and Public Health, Field Tropical Biology, and Ethnobiology. A semester program in South Africa offers students the opportunity to study African Ecology and Conservation.
