Adrienne Bober, a senior environmental studies major from New Canaan, CT, has been awarded the 12-month Cary Fowler ’71 Environmental Studies Fellowship with the Crop Trust in Bonn, Germany. She will join the partnerships and communications team in August.
The Global Crop Diversity Trust is an independent, international organization established in 2004 by the CGIAR system and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The mission of the Crop Trust is to ensure the conservation and availability of crop diversity for food security worldwide. The fellowship provides the opportunity for a recent Rhodes graduate to develop an understanding of the Crop Trust and the international necessity for genetic resource conservation. Fellows are given projects based on their specific strengths and the needs of the organization and are expected to participate in a wide range of activities and projects. Previous fellows have assisted in planning conferences and events, developing communications materials, and even accompanying deposits to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault.
Bober currently serves as an intern at the Memphis-Shelby County Office of Sustainability, and in the summer of 2016, she was an Environmental Change and Security Program Intern for the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars located in Washington, DC. At the Wilson Center, she assisted with the creation and execution of eight multi-speaker panel events and contributed to the organization news blog, New Security Beat.
“I am honored to have been selected for the fellowship and am eager to contribute to the efforts of the Crop Trust next year,” says Bober, who will graduate in May. “As someone interested in pursuing a career in international governance or environmental policy, I am excited to have this unique opportunity to witness international environmental collaboration and action up close.”
Bober is a graduate of Northfield-Mount Hermon School in Northfield, MA.
