Reserves

Checking Out Reserve Materials

Books and Journal Articles that are on reserve for class assignments are kept at the Check-out Desk.

Audio and visual media such as DVDs, CDs, LPs, and VHS Cassettes on reserve for class assignments are kept in the Media Center.

The reserves file, arranged by professor′s name and class number, is located at both the Check-out and Media Center desks. Use this file to look up which call number or envelope number to request from Check-Out staff for a particular reserve item.

You must have your Rhodes ID with you to check out reserves, and you may have only one reserve item checked out at a time.

There are two different loan periods for reserves:

  • 2-Hour Reserves -- must be used in the library only. If you check out a reserve item less than two hours before the Check-out Desk closes, the item is due back before the desk closes.
  • Overnight Reserves -- may be taken out of the library. These items are due in by 10:30 a.m. the following day.

Overdue fines for reserve items are $1 for the first hour late and 50¢ for each hour thereafter.

Placing Materials on Reserve

To place books from our collection, personal copies of books or photocopies on reserve, contact our Check-out Desk staff, Amanda Ford or Andrew Sullivan by email or telephone (#3900).

To place audio or visual materials on reserve, contact our Media Center Supervisor, RoseAnn Hicks at RHicks@rhodes.edu or telephone #3261. It takes time to process items for reserve, so the Library requests you give us at least two class days lead time to process the materials before the reading assignment is given to your classes.
