Moodle

Moodle is a course management system (similar to WebCT, now Blackboard) developed by educators with a "learning-centric" perspective. Faculty can easily set up interactive online courses and upload syllabi, host discussions, accept assignments electronically, give quizzes, and much more.

Course information is loaded into Moodle from our Banner system. Student information is uploaded about two weeks before a semester begins and daily during the drop/add period. Normally, all of a professor′s courses, along with student rosters, will be available two-to-three weeks before the start of a semester.

The Moodle server is backed-up daily. The previous two semesters of course information (excluding student rosters) are stored on the Moodle server. (For example, if it′s the Fall 2009 semester, courses that were used the previous Spring 2009 and Fall 2008 semesters are retained.)

To ensure the availability of the course information beyond that timeframe, we recommend backing up the course and saving the archived course file to your computer or removable storage. (See the Knowledgebase article Backups and Restoration for instructions or Ask Us!)

Use the Faculty or Student Quick Start guides to begin using Moodle, or refer to these Knowledgebase articles for frequently-asked questions about using Moodle.
