Where To Save Documents
When you are working on the Barret Library computers, applications automatically save all files in C:\User Documents. Be sure to save the file you’re working on often. If the computer experiences problems, you will probably not be able recover any of your work unless you have recently saved the file.
When you are finished working on the file, copy (drag) it to your folder inside the Student_Community share on Fileserver1 (you can find Student_Community through a shortcut on the desktop).
Do not leave any files on any computers in the Rhodes College computer labs. This is very important, because files on the computer′s Desktop are deleted when you log off, and C:\User Documents is only a temp folder.
Files and folders may be copied (dragged) to and from C:\User Documents on the computer′s hard drive and Student_Community. Files can also be copied to and from users′ CDs or floppy disks. Saving your files to your folder on Student_Community is safer than saving to a CD or floppy.
While you can temporarily work on files located on the computer′s hard drive in the labs, be sure to permanently save in your folder on Student_Community. For example, if the file is in your folder on Student_Community, drag to C:\User Documents to make changes. When finished, drag it back into your folder on Student_Community for safe keeping.
In addition, all Rhodes College computer lab workstations feature a CD-R drive, so you can also use any lab computer to backup all of the documents in your Student_Community folder.
