Laptop Checkout

There are two types of laptops that may be checked out by students, faculty and staff at the Barret Library. The Checkout Desk has seven laptops available for in-library use only, while the Media Center has five laptops available that may be used outside the library.

In-library Laptop Checkout

Loan Periods

  • In-library laptops are available at the Checkout Desk.
  • Laptops are available during normal library hours. They are not available during the midnight to 2 a.m. study only hours, Sundays to Thursdays.
  • Laptops are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Laptops are due 3 hours after being checked out. 
  • No laptops are checked out during the last 30 minutes before closing.
  • There is NO overnight loan.
  • Laptops must be used within the library.
  • Laptops must be returned directly to the Checkout Desk staff before the Checkout Desk closes.

OVERDUE FINES
Fines on overdue in-library laptops and related items are $20.00 an hour per item, with each component of the checkout – laptop, AC adapter, CD/DVD Drive – counting as a separate item.


    Out-of-library Laptop Checkout

    Loan Periods

    • Out-of-Library laptops are available at the Media Center.
    • Laptops are available during normal Media Center hours.
    • Laptops may be reserved online via the Audiovisual Equipment Reservation Page.
    • Laptops are due 3 days after being checked out.
    • Laptops do NOT have wireless capability.
    • Laptops must be returned directly to the Media Center staff.


    OVERDUE FINES

    • Less than 1 full day late: $1
    • 1-9 days late: $7/day
    • 10 or more days late: $10/day

     

    Conditions of Use for ALL Laptops

    • The Borrower is responsible for the security of the laptop.
    • The Borrower is responsible for any damage to the laptop.
    • Personal software should not be loaded on the laptop.
    • System settings should not be changed.
    • Laptops should never be left unattended.
    • Do not leave laptop on checkout counter or in a book drop.

    REPLACEMENT/DAMAGE CHARGES

    • Laptop stolen or lost:  $2000.00
    • CD/RW/DVD Drive missing: $200
    • Missing AC Adapter: $60
    • Laptop carrying case (Media Center Only): $60
    • Mouse (Media Center Only): $10
    • Network Cable (Media Center Only): $5
