Connecting to Email with Mozilla Thunderbird

Download and install Mozilla Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/

1. When you start up Thunderbird, click on Create a new account.

2. Make sure Email account is selected and click on the Next button.

3. Enter your name and Rhodes email address.  Then click the Next button.

4. Select IMAP as the type of incoming server you are using.

5. For Incoming Server, type xch.rhodes.edu

6. For Outgoing Server, type smtp.rhodes.edu if you are on campus.  Otherwise, use the SMTP server of your Internet Service Provider (e.g., mail.bellsouth.net).

7. Click Next.

8.  Enter your Rhodes Network username for bot the Incoming User Name and the Outgoing User Name.  Then click Next.

9.  In the third box that opens, make sure the incoming server is set to IMAP.

10. The incoming mail server should be set to exchange.rhodes.edu

11. The outgoing mail server should be set to smtp.rhodes.edu  Click Next.

12. Name the account whatever is useful to you.  (It will only be identified as this in Thunderbird.) Then click Next.

13. Review the information you’ve entered.  Click Finish, and you’re done!

14. When you first access your Inbox, you’ll be prompted for your Mail Server password.  Enter your Rhodes network password and click OK.
