Forbes, Erny, Goss, Broocks (4x400 meter relay team)

Both 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays broke school records for the Lynx, while setting NCAA National Provisional Qualifying Marks at the Vanderbilt Invitational this weekend. The 4x100 meter relay team ran a time of 48.54 consisting of Freshman Julia Goss and Kristin Forbes, Junior Sha King, and Senior Elizabeth Erny. In the 4x400 meter relay, Sophmore Emily Broocks joined Goss, Forbes, and Erny to run an impressive time of 3:55.07.

Individually, Forbes, Goss, and King all competed in the 100 meter dash. Forbes led the way with a time of 12.39 seconds, while King ran 12.70 seconds and Goss ran 12.97 seconds. King also doubled in the 200 meter dash running a season's best of 26.46 seconds. Also on the track, Sophomore Alanna Topps turned in a tremendous performance in the 100 meter hurdles, nearly breaking the school record in a time of 15.36 seconds.

In the field events, Freshman Kim Tryon once again led the way in the pole vault with a jump of 3.20 meters (10'6). While Erny and Sophomore Bekka Russ cleared 2.89 meters (9'6). Goss also competed in the long jump on Friday night hitting a mark of 5.33 meters (17'6). Unfortunately Sophomore Valisa Berber-Thayer is still battling injury and was unable to get a long jump mark. Her teammate Sophomore Annie Bell competed in both the long jump and triple jump. Her leap of 11.43 meters in the triple jump is an NCAA National Provisional Mark and has her ranked tied for sixth in the nation.

On Friday night, the distance events were held under the lights. Freshman Kate Scherer ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a strong personal best with a time of 12:06.30. Freshman Meredith Jones dipped under the 20 minute mark in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:43.86. In the 3,000 meter run, Freshman Whitney Ranson ran a time of 10:39.86.

Broocks relay performance was only the end of a long, but successful weekend. Prior to the relay Broocks competed in both the 1,500 and 800 meter runs with times of 4:59.23 and 2:23.71 respectively. Broocks was outdone by Freshman Cybil Covic who bettered these times in both events running 4:51.10 and 2:22.59. Rounding out the trio of mid-distance runners is Senior Courtney Cockerell who ran times of 5:07.46 and 2:24.60.

The Lady Lynx look to continue their success at the conference meet next weekend in San Antonio, Texas and NCAA Nationals at the end of May in OshKosh, Wisconsin.
