Strong Meet for Rhodes at Lynx Invitational

Annie Bell (MICDS/St.Louis,MO) broke the school record in the triple jump today with a mark of 11.45 meters (37'6.75"). The performances is a NCAA National Provisional Qualifying Mark and ranks her second in Division III this year. Earlier in the day, she also set a large personal best in the Long Jump with a leap over 17'. Also in the jumps, Sophomore Bekka Russ (Franklin/Franklin,TX) finished in the top 8 clearing 1.83m (4'9.75"). Russ was also one of 4 vaulters over 9' for the Lynx. Freshman Melissa DeFabrizio (Admiral Farragut,FL/Richmond Hills,ONT) also cleared 9', while Senior Elizabeth Erny (Sacred Heart/Louisville,KY) and Freshman Kim Tryon (Gulfbreeze/Gulfbreeze,FL) both cleared 9'6.25".

Freshman Kristin Forbes (Hillsboro/Nashville,TN) led Rhodes in the sprints with a time of 57.82 in the 400 meter dash, only a few tenths off of a National Provisional mark. Sophomore Alanna Topps (Gallatin/Hednersonville,TN) set two new personal bests. She finished 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.68 and ran 26.54 in the 200 meter dash. Freshman Elizabeth and Rachel Bernard (Southlake Carroll/Southlake,TX) also both set personal bests in the hurdles finishing in 6th and 7th with times of 1:11.89 and 1:12.45, respectively.

The distance runners also had a good showing for the Lady Lynx. Sophomore Emily Broocks (Cedar Creek/Ruston,LA) ran her first 1,500 meter run of the season in a time of 5:12.13, while Freshman Whitney Ranson (Asheville School,NC/Pickens,SC) returned from an injury to run 5:16.05. Freshman Charlotte Ashford (Highland Park/Highland Park,IL) broke twenty minutes for the first time in the 5,000 meter run, finishing 7th in a time of 19:55.95. Freshman Cybil Covic(Cordova, TN) finished off the day for Rhodes with a time of 12:09.11 competing in her first career 3,000 meter steeplechase.

For the Lynx men, junior Dave Huntzinger (Macalay/Tallahassee, FL) enjoyed a strong showing in the 3000m steeplechase as well, by placing 2nd in a time of 10:05.15, a lifetime best. Junior Alex Mahoney (New Trier/Winnetka, IL) and sophomore Steele French (Milton/Alpharetta, GA) also set personal bests in the men's 1500m run as they ran 4:05.11 (3rd) and 4:07.63 (7th), respectively. Lynx first year hurdler Anson Purdy (Oratory Prep/Westfield, NJ) continued the trend of personal bests in the men's 400m intermediate hurdles as he clocked in at 58.02.

The Lynx field athletes matched their track counterparts with impressive performances and personal bests, as well. In the javelin, freshman Greg Cook (St. Johns's/Bellaire, TX) came within 7m of a national provisional qualifying mark, with his lifetime best throw of 51.88m (170'02"). Cook's javelin throw came in addition to his solid performance in the triple jump of 12.52m (41'1"). Junior Will Pitts (Charlotte Country Day/Charlotte, NC) greatly improved off last week's leap in the men's high jump as he cleared a season best 1.83m (6'0"). Sophomore Larry Hurd (Bartlett/Memphis, TN) again proved solid in the men's disc with a toss of 41.95m (137'7").
