2000 Season Wrap-Up

One word easily sums up the 2000 volleyball season: successful.

The team finished with a 20-19 overall record, including a 9-9 SCAC conference record. The conference record was good enough for a 5th place finish in the SCAC--a great improvement after finishing in 10th place during the 1999 campaign. Furthermore, the Lynx had 11 more wins in 2000 than they did in 1999, when the team's record was 9-18 overall. 2000 also marked the team's first winning season since the 1997 campaign.

The Lynx played consistent volleyball throughout most of the season, as they never lost more than 3 games in a row at any point during 2000. After opening the season 1-3 at the Earlham Invitational, the team was able to turn things around the following week when it finished in 2nd place with a 3-1 record at the Millsaps Volleyfest. This trend continued throughout the season, as the team defeated eventual NCAA Division III volleyball tournament participants Gordon College (MA) and Austin College (TX).

The addition of 7 new players on the team in 2000 made a great impact during the season. Along with the 6 returnees from the 1999 squad, the team possessed more depth, skill, leadership and experience at all positions.

The team now anxiously awaits the start of the 2001 season, and looks forward to putting together another 20-game winning season. The team must "look backward with gratitude and forward with confidence." The Lynx will open the 2001 volleyball season at a tournament in Daytona Beach, FL.

2000 All SCAC Honors

Junior Outside Hitter Naomi Long was named to the All-SCAC 2nd Team for her performance this past volleyball season. Long led the Lynx team in kills (401), for an average of 3.2 kills-per-game during the season. She also led the team in digs (432) for a 3.45 digs-per-game average.
